*The Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI)* is looking for an
interested and research-driven candidate to work on a ‘Human-Nature
Relations’ project in a community forest in Nagaland. The primary aims of
this project are to:
a. Conduct a biodiversity assessment of the community forest (mammals and
birds) using visual surveys (transect method) and camera traps.
b. Understand the ways in which local people use and manage forest and
wildlife resources (ownership, hunting-patterns, etc.). This includes
documenting traditional land ownership, access and use systems and their
impacts on wildlife populations.
c. Understand forest/wildlife related belief systems, myths and cosmology
that may impact wildlife conservation.
The selected candidate will be guided by Dr. Sahil Nijhawan (British
Academy Fellow, Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and UCL Anthropology)
and is expected to commit to the project for at least six months starting
November 2019 until April 2020. The candidate will be based out of Nagaland
and will be provided with reimbursements for accommodation, food and travel
during the project period. Depending on the candidate’s level of
experience, a consultancy fee may also be provided.
*Eligibility for application:*

· Degree in zoology, wildlife conservation, anthropology or
other allied disciplines

· Interest in disciplinary research

· Must have at least two years of relevant experience in
projects related to the above objectives
- Must be physically fit to undertake extensive field work
We welcome masters students looking for research placements and
projects. We expect the selected candidate to provide a detailed report at
the end of the project – i.e. by May 2020.
