Dear Club ITers,
I am hoping that many of you will be able to participate in Club IT this
semester. To the best of my knowledge, Christian will be stepping down as the
Club President. Being a Club President looks great on one’s resume especially
when starting your career or shifting careers. While it is always up to the
club to decide what to do, I am hoping that the club will continue with Natl
Cyber League (NCL) this semester. It is always great seeing members improve
each semester. One of our club members placed #75 out of 5,000 participates!!!
Our first meeting will be next Wednesday 1/29@4-5PM in 4803B (same room as
before). The meeting times are slightly shorter vs the fall semester. We have
several other activities this semester including Tech Talk on Wed Mar 11th.
Would be great to have the club participate as they have for all 3 Tech Talks.
There is also STREAM on Sat Apr 18th.
I also wanted to share two opportunities with club members. Please see below.
One is a Career Panel and Networking Session at Natl Univ on Tuesday Feb 4.
The other is a cyber conference (B Sides) which is like a mini DefCon is being
held on Sat/Sun Mar 7 and 8th also at Natl University. Both events are free
for students. The BSides has volunteer opportunities as well. Volunteering is
huge for resumes and also a great networking opportunity to meet IT Personal.
It will make getting interviews, especially information interviews, a snap and
shows your commitment and enthusiasm for your craft!
Please let me know if anyone has questions.
Look forward to seeing returning club members and new club members next Wed.
Kind Regards,
Rick

Subject: [isc2-sdiego] BSides San Diego 2020 Volunteer Opportunity
[BSides San Diego logo.png]
BSides San Diego 2020 is an Information Security conference done for security
professionals, by security professionals. Our speakers do not talk to the
attendees, they involve the attendees with their talks and ensure that everyone
enjoys the discussions. This conference will be held on March 7 & 8, 2020 at
the National University Spectrum Center Campus.
There are 4 tracks (Story Mode (Main), Level Up, Tutorials, and Castle Defense)
available for attendees, various villages (Lock Picking / Tamper Evident,
Hardware Hacking, Educators / School / NU, Career / Hiring, and Escape Room)
that will be full of great resources and fun, and two (2) Capture the Flag
(CTF) events (Main CTF and Wireless CTF). I am in charge of the Castle Defense
track and this track deals with the blue team. Blue team is the defense of a
company where they are the Security Analysts, Incident Responders, etc. and
they are the ones who analyze the security of the company and help to ensure
the company is as secure as possible.
We are looking for volunteers!
Volunteers are needed in different areas, such as the talk tracks, CTFs,
villages, etc. As a volunteer, you will be helping the conference to run
smoothly and this experience can be put onto your resume. Volunteers will be
scheduled throughout the day on both days and will be rewarded in one way or
another. This opportunity will help you get experience towards your job when
you graduate and you will be able to network with other security professionals.
