Hey Club ITer’s
Job lead. Not likely amongst our group, but you may know someone. I wish I
had the knowledge - sounds like a great job that I would enjoy (not much
talking to people, just the hum and AC of a Datacenter).
Our 20 year facilities person that manages about 5 data centers is retiring.
I don’t know if they have someone internally already in mind to replace him,
but throwing this out there. He managed the facilities of about six data
centers; a couple in San Diego, Pasadena, Los Angeles, O.C., Phoenix. It
is more of a facilities job than hard core I.T. So think power (A/B
redundancy, batteries, generator), Air flow (HVAC, rack cooling, moving air
through the raised floor, etc), Rack deployment for customers to move into.
Cross connects (cabling) to bring services to the racks for customers (layer 2
point to point, connections to the internet, connections to AWS, etc).
She/He does not configure the network gear or the servers (usually customer
provided), firewalls etc. That is all done out of DC. I suspect they may
rack new gear, power it up, and give it a baseline connection for the DC team
to take over.
If anyone comes to mind, feel free to give them my contact info
