I am sending this letter to welcome all who have recently signed up for our
Math 4 Wisdom email group. And I am also reminding us all of what we
should know about this group. Most importantly, here is the link

digest mode (get one big letter per day) or vacation mode (get no letters
at all).

Our letters are visible to the public. Furthermore, the rule for our group
is that every letter we send here enters the Public Domain, copyright-free,
for all to share and reuse in their own best judgement, except for those
letters or attachments where we explicitly state otherwise.

This email group is the social hub for Math 4 Wisdom. Our purpose here is
to engage each other supportively, but especially, to help new participants
assimilate, which can take some time. Feel free to introduce yourself
whenever you like or simply join in on any topic.
I do have one more rule, which I also try to observe myself: Please send
us at most one letter per day. This helps us maintain our deliberate,
contemplative, pensive pace. But also, I want to avoid a flurry of letters
which can chase away "lurkers", those who may not be writing but do read
some of our letters, which is very important for me and Math 4 Wisdom. You
are very welcome to write long letters, and they can be on multiple
subjects, and thus don't worry if they don't match the subject line of your
letter.
Our email group has its own culture where our letters are especially
valuable when:
* We write honestly about what is important to us, which may be simply, why
we are here.
* We focus on what we don't know, rather than what we know.
* We think in terms of questions rather than answers, and we don't rush to
answer questions but rather contemplate, how to investigate questions.
* We share our current thinking and exploring as a work-in-progress,
thinking out loud.
* We go out on a limb with our ideas rather than play it safe.
* We share our first hand personal experiences, as relevant, rather than
rehash things we've heard.
* We consider how to apply our ideas.
* We reflect on our own thinking, trying to understand it.
* We make efforts to know truly and agree deeply.
* We work alongside each other, in parallel, on multiple threads that we
keep returning to, and intertwine as meaningful.
* We are supportive of each other's investigations, explorations and
general learning.
In this spirit, we may write on all manner of topics, and I think we will
find that absolute truth, and my own interests in Wondrous Wisdom and Math
4 Wisdom, may often become relevant, as I hope.
I lead Math 4 Wisdom because, in my childhood quest to know everything and
apply that knowledge usefully, I have documented a language of cognitive
frameworks which I call Wondrous Wisdom. I am trying to show that this
language is real and so I am exploring and showing where it arises in
advanced mathematics. All of this is meaningless unless it results in a
thriving investigatory community where this language is helpful, especially
for those who are investigating their own questions. I seek a supportive
community for myself and likewise for all who wish to explore absolute
truth as they think best.
