Hello,

What you’re describing here isn’t a VoiceOver problem, but rather a
typing echo issue. From the sound of it, your typing echo is set to
“characters and words”, instead of “characters”, or “words”.

You can adjust this in two ways:

1. Use the command VO plus v. This will bring up some VO parameters you can
adjust on the fly, i.e. punctuation level, how numbers are spoken, how capital
letters are handled, etc. After issuing the command, either Left/Right arrow,
or VO plus Left/Right Arrow, till you hear the parameter you wish to change,
then, either VO plus Up/Down Arrow, or Up/Down Arrow, till you hear the setting
you want, then press the Escape key.

2. Open the VoiceOver Utility, by pressing VO plus F8. Navigate to the
"Utilities Categories" table, interact with it, navigate to “speech”, stop
interacting, VO plus right arrow, till you hear the “Text Tab” spoken, select
it, then look for the item, “While Typing Speak”, which will be preceded by the
current setting, which, I’m guessing, is “Characters and Words”.

3. Set this popup to the setting desired, then close the VO Utility, and you
should be good to go.

HTH?
