Here is a tip I hope you find to be useful.

When in column view and you find yourself deep in a file structure, you can retrace your way back through it using the escape key. this is valuable because when you use te escape key rather than left arrow, you can keep using up and down arrow to read the list where you are as you continue to tack out say you want to go to a different folder than the one you are in on a previous level, let's say you are several levels deep, so you press escape till you hear your desired level, press up ad or down arrow till you hear your folder and right arrow. it's really nice.
