Dear David, I am sorry you accidentally deleted my post. I am pasting it in below. I am also sorry that others as of yet have not responded to your request. Let me just add that the sidebar appears in the FINDER window on the left. It can be hidden. I don't use it when I am in FINDER so I have it hidden. Basically it works like the Mailbox column in MAIL. For instance if you choose the IN box in the Mail column then when you interact with the messages table you will see all the messages in the IN box. Then if you choose to select the TRASH mail box, for instance, you will see all the messages in the TRASH, when you go to the messages table. Likewise in the FINDER if you are connected on a network, you can quickly view the files on let us say, Shared Folders, Public Folders, other hard drives that are connected to your Mac, or other servers that you may have been given access to. For me the dock is sufficient along with the contents of my Desktop to access the files I want. Let me know if you have more specific questions. Previous post pasted below: Dear David, As a totally blind user I am not too aware of the sidebar. When I do an Open or Save Dialogue box I know it is there. In these cases I use the side bar only to use the area of the computer from which I want to open save or attach a file. It is just to the left of the CHOOSE FILE Table. I am not hooked up to any network and I save everything on my hard drive, so I don't really need it all that much. From what I understand it is a shortcut to get quickly from one area to the next area. If you open in the FINDER preferences and go to the tool bar you will find a tab for the sidebar, which will allow you to pick what kind of items you want to appear in the sidebar. . I am sure others on this list can add to this, I just wanted to get you started.
