You know something? At first, I also thought that the old Windows way would be
easier. However, soon, once I worked out eactly how the Mac curser does
things, I switched it back to the default way and left it there. The secret, I
learned, is to thing of the Mac curser as a kind of electric type writer in my
head.  Why?  Because, you see, if you stop and think about it for a moment;
and, if you think back to the days when you learned to type on a physical
electric or manual type writer, the Mac curser's behavior is exactly that of
the caridge of an electric or manual type writer; especially those heavy IBM
Selectric models. the ball with all the letters on it is going to be just to
the right of every letter you type just like the Mac curser is. So, if in your
head you replace the Mac curser with the old letter ball, it will help to show
you exactly what's actually going on. Eventually, you won't need to make that
mental replacement.

HTH.
