[macvoiceover] Unread Mail Messages

I’ve upgraded my MacBook to Mavericks.  How can I get VO to speak whether a 
message in my inbox is read or unread.  I think the same thing happened to me 
when I upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I don’t remember what the solution was.
