[macvoiceover] Pairing braille device with iPhone

I'm not at all familiar with using a braille device with an iPhone but was
thinking of buying a HumanWare Braille Connect 12. I can get it paired but it
won't stay paired but disconnects every time I lock the screen and turn off the
device.
Is this a problem with all devices? My husband uses an Apex but we haven't yet
used it? Or are there steps I need to follow to keep the devices paired?
