It sounds like voiceover has been muted. Just do a 3 finger double tap on the
touchpad. You should hear “voiceover unmuted."

I am writing for my wife since her mac air is down. Well, it works but
without speech. When it boots up, it says, voice over on and then it says,
speech off. The screen displays we are told but we don’t know where to go to
switch speech back on. To make matters worse, the two cursors are not
