I just spoke with AppleCare Technical support about running the Install DVD of Snow Leopard. She told me that the only difference between the Upgrade purchase and the Box set is this. The actual install DVD is no different and that in fact, if you wish, you can do a fresh install from scratch. She said that the only difference is the added applications like iLife. She also said that once booted into the DVD installer, just go to disc utilities and erase and start with a fresh install.
Because I wanted to be sure of this, I decided to check.
