Great, you found the mixer with master volume, i didn't think of that .
removing material.
probably useful to set the tempo close to your track.
stop interacting with header and left tab to control bar, interact and left tab
to next control bar, interact and you have a bpm slider.
play track and press k to activate metronome, adjust bpm to get as close as you
can.
As well as the track header you have a track timeline, you can set a cycle
region here, press c to turn cycle on/off and interact when it is on and you
have a left and right locator, set the left locator at the bar where your sound
starts, right locator may be more useful later as when you come to export you
can choose to export the cycle area.
To remove some bars first play to the start point of thesection you want to
remove and split the region at playhead cmd t. this will creat two regions . go
to the end of the area you want to remove and split again. you now have three
regions on the track and you want to delete the middle region then join the
other two.
to do this we need to be in the track contents group, right tab from the
timeline group.
interact with contents group, go to the track you are working on and interact,
you should now see three regions, move to the region you wish to remove and
delete, hopefully you now have two regions.
press cmd j to join.
now you can go back into the time line group, go into the cycle control and
enter the bar that coincides with the end of the song.
from here you can export the results.
Saying all this, i usually use amadeus pro to do my audio processing so you may
run into a glitch but i think i have given you the fundamentals.
let me know how you get on.

Mission accomplished. I did find one helpful step, I stumbled across the
master volume, put that up 6 Db, and the Track up 6 Db, sounds like I got the
benefit of both.
Next lesson is how to trim bits out of an audio track, want to help with that?
I currently use the Hokusai app for IOS to do this, it’s pretty handy, but if
I could do everything in Garage Band it would save some exporting and
importing. Here’s what I’ve got and what I need to do.
I used an audio interface to record Soundscape Street Preview from my iPhone
to my Mac.
I plan to use snipits of the navigation as a sermon illustration this Sunday,
so I need to trim chunks off the beginning, trim a chunk out of the middle,
and if I can, paste in a chunk from another recording at the end.
I think I can stumble through this in Hokusai, but it seems like the kind of
thing a Garage Banda user should be able to accomplish pretty easily.
Also, if it’s easy to do so, can I have the time reported in seconds rather
than beats and ticks? Beats and ticks are great for music, but for this
instance a prcise time report would be great.

That is the limit, yes, you could export it out and do it again.

All good so far, I’m finding a restriction at plus 6 Db, is this a built in
restriction, or should I be able to go past this? I can boost it 6 then
save it and repeat if necessary, but it would be good to go up a bit higher
in one go.
Thanks.

open an empty new garage band track.
you will be on a bar with library and tracks, interact with tracks,
now interact with track header,
press enter to move to the start of the track.
paste in your mp4 file
you will now have a second track with the name of your file, interact with
that track.
arrow to the volume which is at 0.0 db. interact with that slider, press
the spacebar to start and stop playback, increase the slider, if it
distorts or clips you have gone too far.
go into menus to the share menu then export to disk
export as length of region after entering where you want it to be saved
and named, also file type.
get back with further questions.

Hello list, back in May I boosted the volume on some M4A audio files, now
I need to do it again and it’s been so long that if forget what finally
worked. Based on my search history it looks like I tried the following:
An on-line service.
Garage Band for Mac.
A third party audio converter app I downloaded, looks like it was called
avdshare. It’s possible I didn’t actually try this one, I may have balked
at the thought of it being a malware vector.
I also tried running the audio through our church sound board and
physically amplifying for anew recording.
Not kowing what I finally settled on I’ll seek wisdom, how would you
boost the volumet of an M4A recording that is too quiet? If Garage Band,
please pass along step by step instructions, as I’ve never really
mastered even the basics.
Thanks,
Ian
