Yep, they'd both be nice, no reason to campaign for one over the other (smile).

wouldn't it be nice if since they have free vo on every mac, they'd just develop accessible apps?

Hmmm,

But, inevitably application developers will develop apps with accessibility problems (Skype...). Wouldn't it be nice to be able to tweak these through the use of scripts or other configuration options? If only Voiceover had an open API, sigh.

cdh, the idea here is that if it is done right in the first place, tweaking is not necessary. If we can't find it, we cannot reclass it. In other words, if it is not natively accessible, it is not findable.

I guess VO doesn't have a function to reclass a control in a particular program to behave like something it does understand? There are a few programs about which I've heard fairly strong desires to use that have one or two controls that act like things VO understands but because they have a funky window or class name, they appear to VO as an unknown object. It is impossible for a group making a screen access utility to predict every bit of poop that might be thrown at it but, a strong set of configuration features and a scripting language can fix a lot of these issues and we can pass them around via the Raising the Floor Initiative based at U. Wisconsin (my full time gig).

Good evening,

I downloaded and installed IBM Lotus Symphony this evening. Here is what I found.

1. Installation process fully accessible.

2. User Interface and toolbars fully accessible.

3. The control / object that actually contains the document, recognized by Voiceover as "Unknown".

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I navigated all over that thing and the Unknown object was exactly where I would expect the document contents to be and I could not find them anywhere else. So close, but so far away (sad smiley).
