I find it helpful to use tabs in some of my college classes that are open book tests because if I leave the page for more than a minute or two the test will close and I will lose my data while researching the information I need to fill in for my answer essay. If I just open another tab and go to it, I have not left the test page. Hope this idea helps clarify why tabs are a good thing.
