Chris:

Basically the log will show what the permissions are and then what they should. You'll see something like path file name -wr-x ETC which is an example.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

One final thing I do is after installing new software, running permissions repair I go in to the terminal and rebuild index. I'll give the command and notice it is case sensitive.

While in terminal, do the following.

sudo mdutil-E /

Type in your password and you'll see something like volume indix rebuilt or something like that.

Take care,

John

Hello:

As a side note, after repairing permissions I always do command-l which
brings up the log.

Take care,

John

This may need to be done, after installing new software, as a matter
of fact it should be done from time to time to keep your MAC
running well

Repairing permissions,

Go to the utilities directory,
from the finder, command-shift-u
Then to disk utility,
Interact with the table and find your drive,

VO keys, or, tab over to the repair permissions button and Press it
with VO keys-space bar.

It may take several minutes and you can VO around and find the
report, or, wait until the repair permissions button is not dim.
