Wrong.
If a braille display uses usb to interface to the computer, then at least the method of interfacing to the os is the same on each and every braille display. All we need to do is have a skeleton that has the apple supported braille commands (up, down, left, right, position cursor, and so on) Then we would have to write the code (or simply fill in the commands where possible) that should be sent to the braille display to make it do those things. Very simple, and all we'd need would be a little assistance from the braille display manufacture (or a snoop program on the port of a non- cooperating manufacturer in a different os to get those commands) This is not a difficult process, I've done it many times for devices I needed to control programatically before. It makes no difference what the device is, it still has to respond to commands sent to it from the os/driver to do things. If necessary, I'll take the code from my dos source of windowbridge (or the windows one would work too I guess) and drop those controls into any skeleton apple would be willing to provide. It works, and adding new drivers is simply a matter of inputing the appropriate controlling code, nothing more.

Much harder than than I fear. Every braille display is different and there is no standard for interacting with them. The only way to get them to work is to have physical access to the devices itself.

And, this is yet another reason why I've been saying that apple should release a skeleton braille driver for osx, so that displays that aren't supported by apple directly can be made to do so by others.
So far, there has been no response.
I'll keep asking though, perhaps if enough folks asked, they'd do this.
