This brings up menu extras. Use VO keys plus left and right arrows. You will find the battery status in there, and as you arrow around, you'll also find WiFi. To go into any of the menus, press VO and the space bar, , Then arrow down through the menu. You just need to expand the "on my Mac" boxes. Go to "on my Mac" and do a right arrow.
