I use mpeg stream clip to do this. I set my in and out points using the sidders
and then hit trim. You can also use imovie to cut selections out as well. It is
very hard to explaina nd takes patience but it can be done. I edit all of my
video clips with sierra with imovie.
The siders in quick time can be a bit annoying but they work just fine.

A friend took video of me working with my guide dog. I saved the video as a
MP4 file and now wish to Trim the file so it starts at time index 00:007 and
end at time index 03:05. How do I trim the MP4 File with el Capitan? I have
spent hours with QuickTime to figure out the Trim function and do not see how
to save the modified MP4.
