Have you ever wanted to start doing your genealogy on your computer? You
now have a free way to get started. You can download from the internet free
software from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called PAF
(Personal Ancestral File)

Personal Ancestral File 4.0.4 is for Windows 95/98/NT on a IBM compatible
486/66 processor or better

Personal Ancestral File 5.1 is for Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000 on a
Pentium PC or iMac with a Windows emulator

You can download these programs from the official church web site at
http://www/lds.org or http://www.ldscatalog.com

The other company to offer free Genealogy software is Millennia the maker of
Legacy. They are offering Legacy 3.0 Family Tree software for free. To get
your copy of Legacy 3.0 just point your web browser to
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/. and follow the instructions. Currently
there is no version of Legacy for a MAC. This is something we may consider
for the future. In the meantime, Legacy can run on a MAC that has Virtual PC
or similar software installed.

Legacy vs. PAF Comparison
Here is a list of some of the differences between Legacy and PAF. We feel
that Legacy has a lot of great features that PAF left out. Features that
make using the program faster and easier.
