I continue to wonder if Arogos skippers are present in northwestern LA. They
are common in southeastern OK, living in open, dry prairies. In southeastern
LA, I have only found them in moist prairie habitat with pitcher plant bogs. I
checked the side hill bog at Cooter's Bog last last Aug w/o success. I thought
I would try again yesterday, on my way home from the NABA count at Allen Acres.
I was there from 2:30-3:30. While there were hundreds of liatris in bloom,
bringing n the swallowtails and sulpurs, I saw no grass skipper, much less
Arogos Skippers.
That said, if there is anyone out there who wants to see Little Metalmarks, now
is the time to visit this bog. I saw 14 in an hours time, not rally looking
for them. They were on both sides of the road, mostly on yellow and blue
flowers.I also saw 6 Ga Satyrs and one, possibly two Common Wood Nymphs.
