Are you trying to find where an ancestor of yours is buried? Are you interested in the preservation of cemeteries? Ever wonder what history lies in a cemetery? How can that history be better preserved? Would you like to see a presentation on how history can be preserved in a cemetery? Would you just like to learn more about our local cemeteries? If you answered yes to any of these questions you would be interested in attending our workshop on January 31, 2009. Don and Carolyn Louviere and a group called Friends of the Cemetery have mapped several cemeteries in South Louisiana. They are interested in mapping several other cemeteries in the area. Don and Carolyn have gathered a whole team of people to do the work. They will be present to tell us about and to demonstrate their work. They will attempt to answer any questions we might have. They will take us on a tour of the cemetery to demonstrate their work. That demonstration will include a presentation by Father Bill Crumley on how the cemetery of his parish has helped preserve the history of Charenton by means of a few signs placed throughout the cemetery.. The team will talk about their experience with a cemetery that was almost destroyed by a hurricane, how it was restored, and what remedies can be taken to help prevent such destruction in the future. The workshop is free and is open to the public. The workshop is sponsored by the Regional Pastoral Council of the South Region, Diocese of Lafayette. WHERE?
