I have no idea what it is about you, Mr. Speranza, that enjoy, but something -- there's definitely something. You seldom write about things I care about. I hate opera but I love arias. I hate philosophy but love philosophical put-downs. etc. I just don't know what it is about you that attracts me. Not your sex thingies, thank you, but no. I think I detect a clowiniishness behiind your words that reminds me of myself (whom I love) that others seem to miss or that I mistake. Whaterever!

I found that Scott´s Lucy of Lammermuir is actually based on Lord Rutherford, of whom I trust D. Ritchie knows a lot. Giasone in Medea by Cherubini is my next, for next week. I have the DVD (early one, not the second recent one) and will study Giasone´s part. If you can forward this e-mail to those in the know, I´ll welcome comments at jlsperanza@xxxxxxxx Seems like a good tenor role, even if not really your Donizetti, Una furtiva lagrima. Hope all´s well with all, J. L.
