Andy: Much of what Marlena was talking about as self hate is the
Superego
___
Try this. Moe is the Superego, Larry is the Ego, and Curly Joe is
the Id.
Following Freud's theory of mourning as expressed in his essay on
"Mourning and Melancholia" for example:
The Three Stooges suffer a major loss. Moe tries to punish Curly Joe
for bringing about the loss. Moe strikes out, but misses Curly Joe
and hits Larry all the time.
The goal of therapy then is to strengthen Larry, so he can stand up
to Moe, rather than merely being a proxy for Curly Joe.
Nyuk-nyuk,
Eric
