> How about this? "Although he appeared not to approve of the war in Iraq, > he was admiring of Bush." > ck: The Dalai Lama meant Bushido, but was mistranslated. In fact, positive Japanese-American relations throughout the Bush administration have been tracked to this one essential error--mistaking Bush for Bushido. Polls ask Japanese, in Japan, "Are you in favor of Bush?" Cultural trigger. Automatically the person polled thinks of the samurai moral code, Bushido, and the guy's approval rating soars. This line of reasoning has reached the point of being a veritable conspiracy theory shared by millions, and promoted by the CIA through samurai comix. Bush, the president, *is* Bushido, the very essence of Bushido. His family's name was changed to Bush some generations back, but (so the conspiracy theorists propose) they were descended from the Japanese emperors. So if Bush the younger behaves rather imperially, that's just to be expected.
