That does seem to be the trend even in LibraryLand--the online conferences cost almost as much as the inperson ones. There have been several that I thought would be intriguing on a professional level and which would be extremely relevant to my job (possibly even more than the inperson conferences) but which would be impossible to get my library to pay for....and supposedly we are in the information business. On the other hand, if you go to a conference in person, often you get food to eat, a nice place to stay and visit and to interact with people on a level which is not possible to do online. $89.95 is not out-of-line for the type of information received and a 'conference fee'. In fact, based on the fees for the 'lifelong learning' world of fees for such things, it is a bargain. Don't know how they rate in terms of content to the interesting online not-for-credit which are produced by the consortium of Ivy League schools (which look SO interesting...), but I would imagine the interaction would be intellectually interesting. But, like you, and also interested, I will have to regretfully decline even this vitual presence... Sounds like a good time, though.
