The only possible answer is geometry, to lay down a rule and measure the
aural distance between a bobby's, "Oy, what do you think you're up to,
then?" and "My son the intellectual, all he thinks of is this kakameyme
poetry...oi."  From these to an eighteenth or nineteenth century Loch Moy
"oi" may be further yet.
