I find it interesting to compare the entries under the "On this day…” rubric on
the ‘Home’ pages of the English- and German-language Wikipedia sites.
Today, for example, The German-language site notes that January 8th, 1941 is
the day on which Robert Baden-Powell (founder of the Boy Scout Movement) died,
and Graham Chapman (member of the comedy group Monty Python and lead actor in
THE LIFE OF BRIAN) was born. (The English-language site makes no mention of
either of these historic ‘milestones.’)
This death/birth co-incidence is especially interesting for those who enjoy
speculating (either seriously or whimsically) about reincarnation. Evaluating
how each of these individuals would see such a re-birth (i.e., as a step
towards or away from Nirvana) is left as an exercise for the reader.
(I’m sure some list members would enjoy reading the results of such
speculation.)
