"I prefer going to war when there's
absolutely no other option, but then, I'm a coward."

????????????? J. M. Geary.

This reminded me of Coward's Cavalcade.

There's a glorious scene where he plays "Tommy Atkins" (the Potter/Hamilton
ballad), and "Goodbye, my Bluebell" -- a Boer War hit.

Noel Coward came from a distinguished Anglo-Saxon family. His surname literally
means herd of cows. Cow-herd. But it's pronounced as to rhyme with 'Cowardy
Custard".
