"Cara bambina" would be "dear baby", wouldn't it?  Like  in: "Oh, yes, oh

Well, yes.

It's of course too cognate with French "cher" as in "mon cherrie". 
 
In Latin it was 'carus' -- mainly an adjective, but the online Short/Lewis  
quote Plautus for a use of 'carus' as noun. All below.
