Why is Canada so called? A land of canyons--Spanish derivation--doesn't
seem right. Neither does the other meaning of "Canada" in my old
encyclopedia: a Portuguese liquid measure. Some link with Castor canadensis
(beaver) perhaps?
No doubt this is something every Canadian knows.
