Schmidt Ocean Institute seeks to provide undergraduate and graduate students
with a chance to take part in seagoing scientific research aboard Falkor in
coordination with our organization and the principal investigators leading
at-sea research projects. Schmidt Ocean Institute aims to support
technologically advanced research at sea and openly communicate the findings of
our supported research cruises. Student Opportunities Program enables us to
support training of the next generation of ocean scientists and technology
developers and ignite the spark of passion for ocean exploration in their
minds. We hope that by offering indispensable ocean-going experience,
participating students will gain invaluable skills at sea while working with
advanced oceanographic tools and technologies.
Student berthing space may be made available if a science party has unused
berthing. Students can take part in their own research or work alongside a
science team already scheduled to conduct research aboard Falkor. Applicants
should possess knowledge in at least one of the following disciplines: biology,
chemistry, physics, geology, oceanography, or marine technology (e.g.
engineering, software, etc.). Interested students must be enrolled full time in
an accredited institution seeking a baccalaureate, masters, or doctoral degree,
or be serving in a post-graduate position. Time will be given to students to
keep up with their studies while they are on board.
