A strong undersea earthquake rocked parts of Indonesia's tsunami-ravaged Ac=
eh province, but there were no reports of damage or casualties, an official=
said.
The magnitude-6.0 quake did not trigger a tsunami, said Syahnan of the loca=
l Meteorology and Geophysics Agency.
The quake struck at 1.39pm (1639 AEDT) and was centred beneath the Indian O=
cean, about 108 kilometres southeast of the province's capital Banda Aceh, =
said Syahnan, who goes by single name.
The epicentre was 30 kilometres beneath the earth's surface, he said.
Indonesia, the world's largest archipelagic nation, is prone to seismic uph=
eaval because of its location on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire".
Aceh on the northwestern tip of Sumatra Island was the worst hit by a magni=
tude-9 quake on December 26 which triggered waves that killed more than 126=
,000 in Aceh and about 47,000 in 10 other countries surrounding the Indian =
Ocean.
