Muslim women can't lead prayers or stand among men in mosques:
[World News]: Lahore, Mar. 18 : A top religious scholar has claimed that the
American administration's order to allow a woman to lead prayers in a mosque in
the US was invalid and that Muslim women cannot lead prayer for Muslim males.
The News quoted some scholars as saying that according to Jaferia school of
thought, a woman neither can lead prayer nor can stand among the male Muslims
in any mosque. Also, according to Ahle- Sunnah school of thought, the prayer of
a woman was detestable ('Makroh') if she had offered her prayer while standing
up among male Muslims in a mosque.
They said that Islam, however, allows special mosques for the womenfolk where
only women could lead prayers but Azan must be given by some male Muslim.
The paper quoted an Islamic jurist and visiting teacher in Middle East
countries, Hafiz Abdur Rehman Madani as saying that the settled principle and
manner of the great Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was that male Muslims used to lead
prayers.
According to him, if the women had to offer prayers in the mosques then they
were supposed to be in the last row and far away from the male Muslims. The
philosophy of Islam is that the women must maintain a reasonable distance from
male Muslims in the mosque and they should not even stand near them in mosques.
He also said that a female couldn't stand alone in front of the first row and
lead like a male Muslim Imam does. If she has to lead prayer for women then she
should stand up in the middle of the first row and then lead prayer. But some
male 'Muezzin' should give Azan. (ANI)
