Innanzitutto devi aggiornare la lista dei pacchetti con apt-get update
Probabilmente se ti dà errore anche l'update significa che il
repository incluso nel sources.list non è più disponibile.

E' grave che tu non sappia cos'hai installato :-)
comunque prova a fare un cat /etc/issue e dovresti scoprirlo.
