amazing how many things are suspected to be a virus and they are not.
just deleted a whole folder for nothing.

While it's in the realm of possibility, it is fairly unlikely you will be bothered by any form of virus or torjan in Linux. I've not looked into it for quite a while, but I really don't think ~anyone~ is writing aything of the like for Linux because most people run as user, as opposed to root. If a user account gets hosed, it's no big deal.

Even so, running as root isn't all that threatened either. We -- most Linux users -- don't run as root because any one of us might have a moment of stupidity & wind up screwing much more than an app or config we might be working on as root.

I think your only worry is that which happens to all of us: Tweaking something that screws up the boot process or maybe the xwindow system.

As a beginner (as happens to even the most seasoned), just be prepared for the inevitable re-install. And next time you install your system, be sure to put your /home on a different partition than your /boot or sysem. That way, when you make the next re-install, your personal data will be safe, & you just name that partition /home when the install asks what you want to name it:-).
