Well, after 3 hours of a pointless orientation to get into the program... I'm feeling a little better. The orientation was basically how to use their web site to build your resume, and they showed us other job search web sites (most of which I all ready knew about.) But, I did see many many many IT and computer related jobs. I mean it... a lot of them. Most payed around $35,000 a year, which isn't a lot, but I'd take it in a heart beat. Some offered upwards of $70,000 a year too... but, that would require more hands on experience, duh. Here's the sort of experience/certification the employers are looking for: Unix, HPUX, SunOS, Solaris, HP Openview, SNA, Cisco, TCP/IP & Lan/Wan. So, I have a lot of thinking to do, yet again. However, I do have an apointment tomorrow to talk to a job training counselor to find out if I qualify for the grant or any form of training. I have read Meph's reply to my origional post, and you said that you took online courses that are supposed to prepare you for the certification tests, right? I've found some sites like that, and they are free. But, you still have to pay to take the test. I don't even know how that works. I imagine it's something like Nursing... you graduate from school then have to take a test to be certified... but who gives the tests? Who grants you the certification if you pass? And, just how much money are we talking about? Well, I have a bit more of a foundation to work from now. I know what the empolyers are looking for... now, I just have to decide if this is the course I'm going to follow, and which path to take.
