Ah, I'm sorry. That is a local patch that slipped in when I was
committing configure.ac. It helps me see the failures of make check more
easily because it colors the FAIL and PASS strings.
I'm reverting this change in svn. The other option would be to require a
more modern version of autotools (but I presume John is not inclined to
upgrade a perfectly well running machine :-))
