Hello,
Firstly welcome to liblouis, I hope you find it does what you need.

I possibly should note that your suggestion of including liblouis in an iPhone app may potentially have issues due to the LGPL license which liblouis uses. It has been said that the LGPL is incompatible with the appstore terms and conditions. I believe the issue relates to distribution as the appstore restricts the user's abiliity to redistribute the binaries. Personally I think its a load of nonsense being blown out of proportion, particularly if the app developer takes steps to make binaries and source available through other routes and clearly provides details in the app. However whether it is legal or not is something loyers will decide.

Android is a different case as there are different distribution options available. Whether any single distribution route would be compatible with the LGPL is something I am not familiar with, but there are suitable options out there (IE. there is the most basic option of installing an APK from a website link).

One example i can think of for an app using liblouis on Android is BrailleBack from google. However I think that BrailleBack applies patches to liblouis, whether a vanilla liblouis source could be included in an app on android is something I have not tried.

Hi,

My name is Cearbhall and I am a blind programmer and a keen braillist. I am
delighted to find Libluis and I would like to know all about it and how to
incorporate it into an app for the iPhone and Android mobile devices.

I will sit quiet for a while and follow the threads on this list before I
try out any ideas.

I look forward to hearing what you have to say about Libluis.

All the best,
