The prototype of the BrailleBlaster GUI is now ready for your examination and feedback. You can download it from http://www.brailleblaster.org It is the first link on the page. This is my Windows 7 64-bit brailleblaster folder zipped up. It iis actually a Mercurial working copy, so if you have Mercurial installed you can get updates by just typing hg update. However, it contains much more than the Mercurial-tracked files. It also has all the jar files needed and even the class files for BrailleBlaster. Of course, it contains the source files in the src subfolder. These are tracked by Mercurial. If you unzip this file in your C:\ drive you can run BrailleBlaster with the command: java -jar c:\brailleblaster\dist\brailleblaster.jar This command can also be placed in a desktop shortcut. This is recommended. When you run BrailleBlaster, you will see a window with a title bar, menu bar, toolbar, text area and status bar. You can type in the text area. The scrollbars work after you have entered some text. Initially the text area displays "DAISY view". tHE BRAILLE VIEW IS ALSO PRESENT, BUT THE DAISY view is on top. I still have to learn how to make its background transparent and how to bring the braille view to the front. The options on the toolbar are just for examinationj. None of them are active. They are all text labels. Images can be used instead if desired. To see the toolbar use the Jaws cursor and explore the screen from the top. Pressing alt activates the menu bar. The menus behave normally. Only a few items on the file menu are active. The open and save items bring up dialog boxes so you can see how they look and how they affect the window and Jaws when they are closed. The exit item is also active. I will learn how to gray out unavailable menu items and how to attach hotkeys and help to menu items. The welcome screen will be added after some more experience with this prototype. Please give feedback on the list. Thanks, John -- John J.
