I am a little late getting around to this... it's been a hectic week.

It has not always been a flower pot. But what it could have been?

My guess would be a grape press, for making wine.  If it's not that, I'm 
confused!

The photo of your friend was taken in some very interesting light.  From the 
background, I'd say very late in the day, yet he looks to be in brilliant sun.  
Either way, a most interesting face with lots of character.
