Xavier,
I have a close friend who got into Sinclair computers early on. He belonged to
a Sinclair users group. When Sinclair was no more, the group became a generic
users group. He still has bumper stickers that read Staying Alive with Uncle
Clive along with Clive's picture on them.
Best.

Hi Aram, all
Indeed, the Timex Sinclair ZX81, I had the chance ro buy one kit in France and
soldered it at home in Addis Abeba (Ethiopia) where my family stayed. A long
time ago, 1982, I was 18....
for those in the mood to learn, it was the Leica II of the computers 🙂

And to keep busy during lock down, why not building a few cameras in wood?

Enjoy 🙂

Looking things up, perhaps it was the ZX81 that was the kit. I know there was
soldering involved. That much I do remember.

Big project. I have never tried rebuilding a laptop other than memory, new
drive and battery. Built and rebuilt quite a few desktops. First computer was
the Timex Sinclair that you had to actually solder together from parts. The
“good” old days?

David, all
Don't be too sorry for me David, I tend to buy from remote places such as some
organic Da Hong Pao Tea from a factory in Yunan. But that was in the ancient
time, now the silk route has been barred...
Finally, the small Wifi electronic board has come from Germany in the mail:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AuLZAYnoro44gvdpojMkALo8ra5kRw
I can now repair this old Compaquosaurus from 2008.
I recently rebuilt one similar laptop for the daughter of a good friend.
The Young lady received that for her 25th birthday. Her current laptop got
broken just. These old HP Compaq Pro are built to last and they cost a
handfull. A fast SSD disk, an upgrade of CPU/RAM, update of Bios, reinstall the
Win10 et voila.
For a small birthday party at her mom's place near Paris, Korinn managed to get
a few hours off the Hospital of Reims (Champagne area in France 140kms away)
where her talent as MP is in high demand. Her on going specialization is
oncology (graduated MP in 2019) but these days all hands are in the dough.
Then what? She is happy with the tool and she can focus on something else, 10
hours a day...
Be locked down, be happy 🙂

I have sold countless dozens of items (mostly my photo-instruction DVD's) all
delivered by Canada Post, to the US, Italy, France, the UK, Germany as well as
Australia, NZ & a few to places I can't remember.
Never lost a single one.
Sorry to hear about your luck!
David.
Good day Flexers------
On the early days of March, an Italian bought through eBay a nice Leica
T2 to Leica R adapter in original box that I fished out from my closet.
Typical sale for Fleabay, paid, sent on the next day through local
postal service with tracking.
But as you have anticipated it already, the buyer (still alive, good!)
complains the item has not been received. The last tracking, in italian
language dates from March 10th 10h56. Since then the adapter has
obviously got lost somewhere in the bermuda triangle.
My own purchase done in Germany before the lock down to repair a laptop
Wifi adapter is in the same "boat", just recorded at the Deutch post
office by the seller and gone away in a puff of smoke.
Similar experience your side?
As long as www.nicolas.com still deliver at home, all becomes relative
ðŸ™,.
Enjoy your day.
