Not so, David. In Nikon cameras, when AF is off, the beep is also off. I
just turned AF off on one of my Nikon AF lenses and when you focus manually,
it never beeps when you get a focus confirmation light. You always have to
take your eye off the scene and look at the lights on the lower left (on my
model) to see if the camera thinks you are in focus. I also have a chipped
non-Nikon lens and it works the same.
This is a real oversight on Nikon's behalf. When I shot Canon, it would beep
for me in manual focus with my Leica lenses, chipped or not, if I remember
correctly. But not Nikon. Not sure why they have this set up this way in
their firmware, but it has been the same for all three Nikons I have owned.
D7000, D600 and now D750. So, I guess they have no intention of enabling the
beep for manual focus.

Simply Google "Dandelion Nikon". Numerous listings come up.
The original Dandelion chip was for off-brand lenses on the Olympus FT
cameras. Then they came out with one for mFT and I have used both on my
Telyt-400/6.8 for audible focus confirmation.
I've not used the Nikon versions, but they should work. BTW: I use only the
Russian ones. The Chinese version seem not to be anywhere near as good.
They all fit on the whatever-to-Nikon adapter.

When using Leica lenses (manual focus) on a Nikon D 810, is there a way,
even a hack, to get audible focus confirmation, a beep, along with the green
light, when focus is achieved ?
