Eyes that big I would associate with a Taxidermist Product!
:-)
As for dialing up the iso & going for 'A Shot' is a lot better than not trying 
because all that guarantees is 'No Shot'.
Query: Does the Olympus you were using have Image Stabilization? 
Also, is the IS in camera or of the in lens variety?
