Very interesting read.
Great dream: an M3 restored by - Leitz of Wetzlar - bulges my Xmas=20
stocking.

This analogy fits quite well...
"Herm=E8s sold its stake to Kaufmann last September, raising the difficult=
question of whether Leica is a luxury goods company or an engineering=20
company with a highly desirable product.=20
The answer is both, of course ? a bit like Porsche, with the Leica M=20
camera being its 911 and digital technology the equivalent of Porsche?s=20
decision to ditch air cooling for water cooling in the mid-1990s".

Thanks Sonny.

LEICA IT OR NOT, DIGITAL IS HERE TO STAY
How does a time-honoured company known for its world-class analogue=20
cameras
adapt to the information age?
RICHARD LOFTHOUSE reports

Digital photography is here to stay, and so too is Leica. The legendary
German camera maker launched its first digital M-series rangefinder camera
last October, and although they cost ?4,200 each the company cannot make
them fast enough to satisfy demand. This is an astonishing transformation
given that Leica was technically bankrupt as recently as 2005.
