Yesterday I spent a day out of Sacramento's 106-degree (F) heat (41 degrees C) in the relative cool of Sierra County, north of Truckee and Lake Tahoe. I traveled a dirt road where I'd seen Mountain Bluebirds two weeks earlier and found:Least Chipmunk (I'm pretty sure it's Least) http://wildlightphoto.com/mammals/rodents/lech00.jpg Mountain Chickadee: http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/paridae/moch02.jpg http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/paridae/moch03.jpg and Williamson's Sapsuckers: http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/picidae/wisa00.jpg http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/picidae/wisa01.jpgAll photos: R8/DMR, 560mm f/6.8, shoulder stock & monopod. Glad you could avoid at least some of the 41 degree heat!I was through Sacramento, in July of 1991, and you were having a "heat wave", at a modest 47 (that's 117F!) degrees, in your fair town. (I've seen -47C, as well, and I don't much care for either one!)
All excellent shots, as always... but if I had to choose, it would be the Chipmunk. He's really cute ... and beautifully captured.
Thanks, as always, for sharing your "finds". Cheers! --- David Young Logan Lake, BC Wildlife Photos: www.furnfeather.net Rodeo Photos: www.galleries.furnfeather.net Personal Website: www.main.furnfeather.net
