Of the three, I prefer the your first choice.

However, not only are the photogs pushing in the way, the one shown here is apparently using a Sto-Fen diffuser at a 90 degree angle (straight on) flash. Sto-Fen tell us that the diffuser must be used at a minimum of 45 degrees so that the diffused flash will not affect the sensor cell in the flash unit.

I wonder what his photos look like!  :)
