For David, Howard, Dr. Grant and Aram,A few days ago Aram Langhans posted a
message voicing his opinion about smoke coming from British Columbia wafting
into his backyard in Washington State. I didn't think too much about it at the
time. This morning at 7:00 AM I was taking my wife to work. The sun was up and
my wife said that it looked different. There was no glare to it. It looked like
a big orange ball. She quipped that it looked like a scene from a Sci-Fi movie.
I agreed. I didn't think about it anymore that day until the 5:00 PM news was
on one of the local Cleveland, Ohio T.V. stations. Their veteran weatherman
brought up a satellite photo of the haze from smoke coming from British
Columbia, Canada, It was at 35,00 feet or 10668 meters in elevation. Thus the
reason for the aerial phenomena we witnessed in the early morning. Before this
event the main type of Canadian weather events to strike fear and trepidation
to folks in these here parts in winter are two words : "Alberta Clipper!". You
good folks above the 49th parallel are just too generous!. :-) To be serious
for a moment forest fires a no laughing matter. Much danger to life and
property. I hope nobody has suffered more than some inconvenience.
