Hi Peter,
I made a major break through with my two M4s about 1974 (that’s not a typo, it
was 44 years go) when I bought a used Leica MR Leicameter which mounts on the
flash shoe and connects via a pin with the speed dial. See
https://kenrockwell.com/leica/leicameter.htm
Two M4s? One loaded with Tri-X, the other with Kodachrome, just the way my Dad
taught me.
The MR is self powered so there are no batteries to fool with.
Before that I relied on my trusty Weston lightmeter thatI had used for twenty
years with a Rolleiflex.
The MR turns the M4 into a sort of "match needle" camera, almost. Crude, no
allowance for focal length changes, but what the heck?
Lots of MRs are in the used markets.
Good luck,
Bill

Good morning, Sonny. Yes, I have been working with the M4 a little. I bought
a bulk roll of Tri-X and have winding out rolls - just like back in high
school - but I haven’t developed any of the films, so far. Its been quite an
experience not having an onboard light meter to fall back on, because even
back then my little Vivitar slr had a meter, so I’m sure that there will be
many less than satisfactory exposures. I found/bought a little voigtlander
meter that slides into the hotshoe, but I’ve held myself back from using it
until I see how far off I am playing thru the “Sunny f8 rule”.
Best regards,
Peter

Very nice, Sonny. Lovely colors and brokeh; but the effects of heat stress
are certainly evident, even in the deep shade.
Yes, the stress is evident on me too! I would have gone farther looking if
it weren’t for the heat. We need a good soaking rain here, but doubt we’ll
get it.
Have you played with the M4 much yet?

Temps hitting 102 F several days running. Flowers are dear, but they are
there. These I found in deep shade in Adrene's garden.
