We had a total of 30 respondents to this online poll initiated about 2 weeks ago. The results are tabulated here: http://www.geocities.com/dr_eric_chan/LeicaReflexUserFormats.htm<http://www.geocities.com/dr_eric_chan/LeicaReflexUserFormats.htm> A chart of preference-per-user can be accessed on the top left hand corner of the above table (underneath red LEICA logo), or you can go directly with this link here: http://www.geocities.com/dr_eric_chan/LeicaReflexUserFormats.gif<http://www.geocities.com/dr_eric_chan/LeicaReflexUserFormats.gif> SURVEY SUMMARY: 20 of the 30 (66.67%) respondents use film 70% or more of the time, out of which 10 use nothing but film (i.e. overwhelmingly 33% of all respondents). 7 of the 30 respondents use digital cameras 70% or more of the time. 2 out of 30 respondents use digital cameras for all their picture taking efforts. CONCLUSION: This international survey carried out in late May-early June 2006 received a limited number of respondents (30) from the Leica Reflex Mailing List. Within this small cohort, results indicate that film usage is still very much the medium of choice, with the greater majority of respondents (66.67%) relying on film for their results. DISCUSSION: It is very interesting that, with all the talk and furor about the impending end of the film era, we have a representative population of serious photographers on our list that still use mulitple types of films, with even a few into film formats larger than 35mm. While it is possible that the results show a bias due to the type of photographer responding on this thread, it is still good to know that the perception and reliance of unsurpassed quality from modern film media continues to satisfy the discerning tastes of photographers who have refined and highly educated tastes in their choice of cameras and lenses. Another observation from the conversations on the thread (not the survey) is that cost is still prohibitive for those of us that would otherwise consider a high end digital camera system (e.g. Leica R8/9 with DMR; CANON 5D, or building up a new "Olympa" 4/3 system from ground up, etc.), and also the technology transition carries with it a learning curve on software post-processing. Thanks again, one and all, to those of you who shared your shooting preferences! ~ Eric Chan ------ Unsubscribe or change to/from Digest Mode at: http://www3.telus.net/~telyt/lrflex.htm<http://www3.telus.net/~telyt/lrflex.htm> Archives are at: //www.freelists.org/archives/leicareflex/<//www.freelists.org/archives/leicareflex/> ------ Unsubscribe or change to/from Digest Mode at: http://www3.telus.net/~telyt/lrflex.htm Archives are at: //www.freelists.org/archives/leicareflex/
